I have never really let Scarlett help me in the kitchen. It kind of grosses me out when parents tell me their kids helped them make something. But, Scarlett loves.loves.loves to help me do things, so I figured she was old enough to start being my little sous-chef.
We made a delicious chocolate chip cake for a little family/friend function a few nights ago. Scarlett was excellent with the hand mixer.
She took her job of adding the sugar very seriously...
Oops! Got some batter on the measuring cup...
Not to worry, she cleaned it right up!

After beating everything together, she figured she would continue to help by licking the beaters clean.
Mom, you really should try this.
We added a mixture of cinnamon and sugar to the cake and I let Scarlett mix that up- I turned my back for one second and heard "mmm! This is nummy!" She was spoon-feeding herself the concoction. Don't fret friends, I mixed up a new batch for the cake.
It was so fun having Scarlett help me in the kitchen. She is quite the little chef. And before we started baking, she had to take her shirt off. Pants were OK to keep on, but the shirt had to go.
In honor of Scarlett's 22nd month of life (I canNOT believe she will be TWO in two months), here are a few fun things this little jitter-bug is doing these days:
*At the grocery store, she always wants Rolos when we are in line at the check-out. Last week I told her no treats and she responded, "I'll pay!"
* I call Scarlett a million different things, but I use Boo-boo a lot, or just Boo. The other day my Mom asked her what her name was, she thought about it, and then replied "Boo!"
* She always says "thank you, Mommy" to which I usually reply "you're welcome, baby". Last night she did something I had asked her to do so I said, "thank you, baby" to which she replied ever so enthusiastically, "thank YOU, BABY!" She says you're welcome and it is so adorable- "yer welfome".
* Her most favorite thing right now is gum. She asks for it a million times a day. She is fabulous with it, she knows she can't swallow it so she chews for a few minutes and then spits it out. Whenever she chews it, she shakes her head no and says "wa-wo" over, and over again.
* Whenever it is time to leave Grandma and Granddad's house she holds her pointer finger up and says "just one minute!" She really does this whenever she doesn't want to stop what she is currently doing.
* She strips herself down, diaper and all, and runs around the house yelling "look at me! I nay-nay!"
* She smells her baby doll's bum from time to time and says "ew! She needs a change!" She then finds a diaper and wipes and cleans her bum.
* She doesn't really understand that we are having a baby, but when I talk to her about it she knows the new baby is going to get her "mines" (that is what she named her pacifiers when she was like 11 months old).
* She has gone number one and two on the toilet a few times, but is definitely not consistent. She has had two number one accidents- no number two, thankfully.
* Whenever we talk about going swimming she says "call Al!" She has been calling my Dad by his first name for about a month now. He is her most favorite person to swim with.
* Scarlett will not touch vegetables, they are disgusting to her, but last night, she ate a whole bowl of salad! And asked for more. Happy mommy. She also loved the mahi-mahi I made.
* She sings the alphabet- even though she doesn't know it. She says letters, just not in the right order. And some mornings when she wakes up, she sings "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". She doesn't know all the words, but she definitely knows some, and the tune.
* When it is time to put toys away she sings "clean up, clean up..."
Scarlett Ann, you are THE MOST energetic little person I have ever known. You are full of spunk and charisma, and I absolutely adore that about you. I love you, oh so much, and am so excited for you to share your love and energy with your baby sister in a few months.
