Sydney Lucile is five months old today. Where has the time gone? Yes, I always say that. But no one seems to have the answer. Sydney is a very fun, sweet, lovable baby. She is genuinely happy most of the time. If she fusses, she either wants to be fed, changed, or laid in her bed so she can go to sleep (sometimes it's because big sister took her toy). She has such a calm and sweet demeanor, but she can certainly hold her own. If Scarlett gets too much in her face, Sydney will pull her hair right out. She got a handful last week. That'll teach you, Scarlett.
Sydney has beautiful eyes. We still don't know what color they will be- some days they are deep sea blue, other days they look emerald green (I'm so in the mood to use analogies, right now), and then sometimes, they look like they will be a nice shade of hazel. She has great eye lashes to go with them, too. A woman at Target stopped me the other day and looked at Sydney and said "well, that is definitely a little girl" (she had a headband on, so I thought- well, duh). But she told me she didn't even see the headband, she said Sydney just has a very feminine look to her. We think she's quite the catch.
Sydney is an on and off good sleeper. Some nights, she wakes up only once. Other nights, she wakes up once to eat around her usual time (3am), and then is awake a handful of times, needing her pacifier, before she is ready to get up between 8 and 9. We don't have a set schedule with this one. I don't know how you keep to a sleep schedule with more than one child. I feel like I am constantly telling Scarlett "as soon as Sydney wakes up". On mornings that Syd sleeps in until 9:30, she only gets one nap that day. It's usually a 4-5 hour nap in the afternoon if that happens. If she wakes up between 7:15 and 8:15, I have her back down for her morning nap within a little over an hour, she'll sleep for 2-3 hours, and then we drag her around for a few hours, before laying her down again for 2-3 hours in the late afternoon. She goes to bed around 9:30pm.
Sydney loves food. Loves it. Even if she doesn't need to be fed, if we sit down at the dinner table, she squawks until we put her in her high chair and give her some food, too. She used to like plain rice cereal, but I made the mistake of mixing bananas with it and now she won't eat it plain. She likes apple sauce, bananas, avocado, and she loves the green smoothies we make (spinach, strawberries, oranges, apples, and bananas blended up). She is not a fan of green beans. Shocker. No matter what good stuff she's getting, she watches what we eat like a hawk and her little eyes just beg, "please! Share what you're having!"
Sydney laughs quite a bit these days. Sometimes it is that silly little grunt, but somedays, it is a full on belly laugh. No one can get her going quite like big sister can. Sydney is loud. Why are my children so loud? She babbles- endlessly. Church is hilarious because she talks through all of sacrament meeting. Rob has had to leave Gospel Essentials a few times because she is so disruptive. I guess I have to take the blame for this one. I'm loud. And I talk a lot. But Rob talks a lot, too. Our kids were doomed from the start.

Sydney is a little bit mobile- she doesn't crawl, but she somehow scoots to where she wants to be. I have watched her, and she uses her arms and her midsection to really slither around. She doesn't go too far, but definitely moves. Sydney tries desperately to sit up. When I lay her down to change her, her elbows automatically go back and she refuses to lay her head down. She gets her shoulders all the way off the ground. Maybe she'll be sitting up soon. She has strong legs and Rob had her standing on her own to play with a toy she is infatuated with, but about 6 months too young for. Her most interesting toys are toys with tags. She loves tags. Thank goodness we have a few Taggies blankets. She discovered her toes a few weeks ago, and just how much fun those little feet can be. Sydney loves the water. We go swimming a few times a week and she just loves being in the water. She talks and squeals the entire time. Even when kids splash her- she is having a ball. Syd loves when we have dance parties, loves when I sing to her, and loves when I whistle close to her face so she can feel my breath. She is getting really good at picking up her pacifier and putting it in her mouth. Sometimes she struggles and gets it in backwards, but she doesn't seem to get frustrated, just pulls it out and tries again. She really is just a go with the flow baby. We love that about her.
Sydney doesn't mind if unfamiliar faces hold her, but she will look quickly around to spot a familiar one before relaxing. She is finally getting more excited when she sees people she recognizes. Grandma Cindy has been waiting for this day! Ever since Disneyland, if she hears my Dad's voice on the phone she looks everywhere to find him. When Rob gets home from work, she watches him and waits for him to look at her, and then she gives him a huge, gummy smile. Sydney has these chunky thighs that are just delicious. I could nibble on them all day.
We are blessed to have such a sweet girl in our family. We lucked out with these two little ladies.
I tried. Oh, how I tried to get a few decent shots of the girls together this morning. These are two of my favorites:
This shows how mischievous my children are. It's written all over both their faces.
And this shows how Sydney responds to Scarlett. During our little shoot, Scarlett got in trouble. As a result, she stayed in her position, but sobbed. I LOVE the look on Sydney's face, with poor crying Scarlett behind her. "oh geez, Mom. You really did it this time."
When Scarlett was a few months old, a woman in our ward came up to Rob and I after sacrament meeting and said, "This baby could not be any cuter. And it could not be more obvious that her parents absolutely adore her." That has stuck with me. I want everyone to know how much I love my children. They are my world. Being a Mom is definitely not easy. But it is worth it.
Girls, I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.
